Mauritius opposition calls for United Nation's help over torture videos

Opposition leader Xavier-Luc Duval has announced that he has sent a letter to the United Nations (UN) asking for help in connection with the alleged acts of torture levelled by the Mauritian police.

” This is unacceptable. Immediate actions are needed. There was a cover-up. The scope of the problem is extremely serious.

“The police have been aware of the videos since December 2020. It is unacceptable that nothing was done since. We need a purge in the police force and a commission of inquiry. These videos threaten the future of Mauritian tourism,” Duval said.

He called for the revocation of a senior officer.
