BREAKING: Met Office issues ‘Heavy rainfall warning’ again

The Mauritius Meteorological Services have issued a ‘Heavy rainfall warning’ for Mauritius issued at noon on Thursday 17 March 2022. The alert is valid until 5pm.

“Convective clouds are developping to the West, the North-west and over the Central Plateau. On the other hand, a squall line is approaching Mauritius from the South-east and will cross from East to West,” it explained.

“During the passage of this squall line, the clouds will amplify with heavy showers accompanied with thunderstorms. The heavy showers will cause water accumulations in flood prone areas of the South, the Centre and the West,” it warned.

During heavy thundery showers, the public is advised to remain in safe places and avoid open areas, sea ventures and sheltering under trees during thunderstorms.

The Met Office has also urged the public to avoid places prone to water accumulation, river banks and other water courses.

Be very cautious on the roads due water runoff and reduced visibility, it added.
