Bulk carrier drifting off the coast of St Brandon after losing power

Ore Carrier ORE SHANDONG, sailing under the flag of Hong Kong, has reportedly suffered engine failure and is adrift near St Brandon, 110 nautical miles from Cocos Island.

According to Defi Media, the ship has 7,000 tons of fuel oil in its reservoirs, twice the volume of the MV Wakashio.

The bulk carrier had left Malaysia on 26 February to head to Brazil with 23 crew members.

Defi Media said Mauritian authorities have already contacted the owner of the ore carrier. The latter reportedly indicated that a tugboat is being sent to the spot.
