PM's adviser is new boss of Airport of Rodrigues

A senior adviser to Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth Dev Beekharry, who was until recently employed at the PMO has, according to l’Express, been appointed as the Chairman of Airport of Rodrigues Ltd.

Beekharry is also a member of the Board of the Gambling Regulatory Authority.

The new Chairman’s mandate is said to include the construction of a new 2.4 kilometre airstrip at Plaine Corail Airport in 2022.

This Rs3billion project will be funded up to 70% by the French Development Agency and will make it possible for large aircrafts, such as the Airbus A320neo, to land on the island.

The current runway is 1,287 meters long and can only accommodate ATR72-type turboprop propellers. A new control tower is also planned.
