SIM Re-registration: Hearing Set for Constitutional Complaint

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Bibi Rehana Mungly-Gulbul, announced on Monday, April 1, 2024, a work schedule to hear the constitutional complaint filed by lawyer Pazhany Rangsamy.

This complaint seeks to challenge the constitutionality of new regulations requiring SIM card holders to re-register their cards.

The Chief Justice informed the parties that no adjournments would be allowed. The parties must finalize the exchange of questions and answers by April 8, 2024.

They must then submit their arguments by April 15, 2024 and responses to the arguments by April 22, 2024. A date will then be set to hear the substance of the case.

Sanjeev Teeluckdharry, the lawyer representing Pazhany Rangsamy, reminded the court that the deadline for re-registering SIM cards is April 30, 2024.

The Chief Justice also noted that the motion to freeze the regulations has already been heard by the court and a judgment is pending.
