Stormy Weekend: Heavy Rain Watch in Mauritius

The Mauritius Meteorological Services issued a special weather bulletin at 10:45 am on Saturday, March 30, 2024, warning of heavy rain watch for the island.

The bulletin stated that the airmass over the region is moist and unstable, with active clouds associated with remnants of tropical system ‘GAMANE‘ approaching Mauritius from the north-west.

The forecast predicts moderate to heavy showers, along with thunderstorms, to start late in the afternoon and persist through the night and into tomorrow, March 31st.

The heavy rain watch is in effect, cautioning the public to be prepared for potential water accumulation in usual flood-prone areas.

Practical advice from the Mauritius Meteorological Services includes staying in safe places during heavy thundery showers, avoiding open areas, hiking, sea ventures, and sheltering under trees, as well as being cautious on the roads due to reduced visibility caused by heavy showers and fog patches.

The situation is being closely monitored by meteorologists, with updates to the weather bulletin expected based on the evolving conditions.

The public is urged to stay informed by following subsequent bulletins from the Mauritius Meteorological Services.
