The regulations on road infractions, specifically the Roads (Amendment of Schedule) Regulations 2024, are set to be revised.

This will allow police officers and Road Development Authority (RDA) officials to impose fixed fines on offenders under the Road Act.

This decision was made during the Cabinet meeting on Friday, March 22. The infractions covered by these regulations include:

  • Encroaching on roadways and spaces reserved for the road.
  • Accumulating garbage, wastewater, or harmful substances that could damage the road surface, sidewalks, or disrupt access for individuals.
  • Damaging road infrastructure and urban furniture.
  • Throwing stones or any other objects that could cause harm to individuals or vehicles along the roads.

The Cabinet’s approval of revisions to the Roads (Amendment of Schedule) Regulations 2024 will enable police and RDA officials to impose fixed fines for road infractions. This move targets safety and infrastructure preservation, emphasizing collective responsibility for orderly roads.
