Shocking Electricity Bills in Mauritius: What's Behind the Surge?

Subscribers of the Central Electricity Board (CEB) in Mauritius are in uproar over exorbitant electricity bills that have plagued the month of February.

Pointing fingers at the festive season binge from December to January, the CEB has attributed the surge to overconsumption, fuelling further anger.

Amidst this chaos, the CEB has promised to combat the unprecedented spike in energy demand that shattered records come 16th February.

Assuring uninterrupted power supply, it claims to deploy all resources to optimise production capacity, only to face challenges from unexpected foes like bat attacks on power lines.

With complaints flooding social media, disgruntled subscribers voiced their discontent as bills skyrocket despite unchanged energy usage patterns.

Amidst this turmoil, the CEB advocates for responsible energy consumption, pushing for energy-efficient appliances and mindful habits to avert breaching set limits.

But the storm rages on, with NGOs and charitable organisations joining the fray, many alleging illegal surcharge or taxes.
