SIM Re-registration: 2023 Deadline Challenged in Court

Lawyer Pazhany Rangasamy will have to wait a little longer. His motion requesting a freeze on the 2023 regulations requiring SIM card holders to re-register has been postponed until 11th March 2023, pending the State’s counter-affidavit.

His motion is directed against the State and the Minister of Technology, Communication, and Innovation, Deepak Balgobin. It was called on Monday, 26th February 2024 before Chief Justice Bibi Rehana Mungly-Gulbul.

The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) has requested to be cleared of blame in the case.

As for Mr Rajesh Unnuth, representing Lawyer Pazhany Rangasamy, he requested for the case to be heard promptly, considering the deadline of 30th April 2024 for SIM card re-registration.

The Chief Justice responded that they will still have to wait for the State’s counter-affidavit in the case.
