FSC Mauritius Hosts Big Finance Conference on Innovation Trend

FSC Mauritius has hosted the International Organisation of Securities Commissions Africa/Middle-East Regional Public Conference. The event took place today at the Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa, Balaclava. The keynote address was given by the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Mr Soomilduth Bholah.

Also in attendance were the Chairperson of the FSC and the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, Mr Mardayah Kona Yerukunondu; the Chief Executive of the FSC, Mr Dhanesswurnath Thakoor; and the Deputy Secretary General of IOSCO, Mr Tajinder Singh.

Minister Bholah praised the FSC for organizing the conference and highlighted their role as the AMERC representative on the IOSCO Board. The theme of the conference, “Navigating Tomorrow’s Financial Landscape: Innovation and Inclusion and Sustainability”, was discussed, with a focus on incorporating Artificial Intelligence, Fintech, and Crypto in businesses for increased profitability, promoting democratization of the financial industry, and addressing the climate crisis through collective efforts.

Mr Singh emphasized the common objectives shared by FSC Mauritius and IOSCO in promoting innovation, inclusion, and sustainability through Fintech, Crypto assets, and Artificial Intelligence. He addressed the interest in crypto assets among investors and the potential risks involved, which led to IOSCO issuing recommendations to mitigate these risks. These recommendations have been shared with FSC Mauritius as part of the IOSCO ecosystem.
