New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (NMH) has become the 18th company to join the Stock Exchange of Mauritius Sustainability Index (SEMSI), with the official presentation taking place at the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa.

The SEMSI index evaluates sustainable practices of listed companies based on environmental, societal, and governance criteria, with NMH entering the index with a high score following an audit of 165 criteria.

Stéphane Poupinel de Valencé, CEO of NMH, expressed pride in joining SEMSI and emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability with the support of its team members.

NMH’s presence on SEMSI recognizes its long-standing commitment to sustainable practices dating back to the 1990s and its efforts in initiatives like wastewater treatment plants, desalination units, and waste management.

In 2015, NMH engaged in the EarthCheck certification process and became the first Mauritian hotel group to receive the EarthCheck Gold certification for three properties, aiming to expand this certification to all its hotels and headquarters in Mauritius.

Sunil Benimadhu, CEO of SEM, commended NMH for its focus on sustainable development and welcomed its inclusion in SEMSI, highlighting the index’s goal of promoting sustainable practices among listed companies in Mauritius.
