Dr Goolaub Wins Rs 1 Million Suit Against Medical Council Error

Medical Council Mediation: Dr Goolaub reinstated on list of authorized doctors. Dr Shree Swamee Bassoodev Goolaub emerged victorious in a dispute with the Medical Council, after it accused him of failing to settle his Annual Practising Fees from 2016 to 2019, resulting in him being deemed to be practising illegally.

On December 15, 2023, the Medical Council informed the Court that the doctor had in fact paid the fees and was reinstated on the list of authorized practitioners. Dr Goolaub had taken his case to the civil court after being notified by the Medical Council of his alleged illegal practice due to non-payment.

In his complaint, he stated that he had made the payments through a company. He further argued that he had encountered difficulties with the police, explaining that he was in compliance and had made the payments via bank transfer.

He claimed significant damages of Rs 1 million from the Medical Council, deeming their actions a “wrong”. The doctor was represented by Me Takeswarnath Jugoo and attorney Narendra Appa Jala, Senior Attorney.

In the course of the trial, the Medical Council, represented by Me Robin Ramburn, Senior Counsel, admitted to not initially being informed, but later learning that the doctor had indeed paid the fees for 2016 to 2019 through a company.

As soon as this information came to light, the Medical Council took the necessary steps to reinstate Dr Goolaub on the list of authorized practitioners. They stated they had acted in good faith and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to the doctor. Consequently, the doctor withdrew his complaint before the Court.
