84% Pass Rate: Scholars Shine in HSC Exams

7,528 candidates took part in the exams and the pass rate for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) class of 2023 is 84.4%. This performance should be compared to that of 2019, which was 74.95%.

During a press conference, the director of the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES), Brenda Thanacoody-Soborun, emphasized that the exams – graded by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) – had been treated as before the COVID-19 pandemic.

For 2021 and 2022, the Special Consideration element had been taken into account during grading. For the 2023 promotion, a total of 7,528 students participated in the October and November 2023 exams. 6,354 candidates (3,872 girls and 2,482 boys) passed their HSC.

Regarding performance, Rodrigues Island recorded a pass rate of 87.30%, compared to 67.92% in 2019, marking a significant increase of 19.38%. Two scholarships were awarded to the HSC Pro category as in 2023.

This year, 37 candidates applied and achieving a pass rate of 100%. Speaking to the press on Wednesday morning after the Prime Minister signed the document, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, praised the candidates’ performance. She urged scholars to fully contribute to the country’s development after their studies.

In addition to Queen Elizabeth College (QEC), Royal College Curepipe (RCC), Royal College Port-Louis (RCPL), Dr. Maurice Curé State College, and College du Saint-Esprit, which produced multiple laureates, Lorette College in Mahébourg and St-Pierre, Keats College in Chemin-Grenier, and MGSS in Solferino stood out by each producing one laureate.
