The Bar Council is calling for the postponement of cases at the New Court House due to an air conditioning issue.

Senior Counsel Mr. Robin Ramburn, President of the Bar Council, is urging lawyers to seek adjournment of their cases at the New Court House, which houses multiple courts including the Intermediate Court and the Industrial Court.

The Mauritius Bar Association (MBA) supports this request, citing the serious health risks posed by the absence of air conditioning and proper ventilation.

The MBA has unanimously agreed to this decision at their Annual General Meeting and is urging authorities to address the issue within the next two weeks.

The Bar Council believes this is a clear signal that the problem has persisted for too long and needs to be resolved for the benefit of all involved.

Concerns have been raised about the impact on the public and the respect for lawyers, with claims that the issue should have been resolved earlier.

While not all cases can be adjourned, particularly those involving judicial inquiries, efforts are being made to find a lasting solution to the air conditioning problem.

The Supreme Court has acknowledged the additional works being carried out to address the situation.
