From Slavery to Freedom: Seychelles President Honors Mauritius’ Anniversary
Seychelles’ President to Attend Mauritius’ 189th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery.
Wavel Ramkalawan, has been invited by Mauritius’ Prime Minister, Pravin Jugnauth, to serve as the guest of honor at the commemoration of the country’s 189th anniversary of the abolition of slavery, as confirmed by State House on Sunday.
The official ceremony will take place on 1st February, a national holiday in Mauritius.
This occasion not only acts as a reminder of the moral resistance and sacrifices made by countless individuals to overcome the slave trade and slavery, but also pays tribute to the unnamed men, women, and children who played a significant role in shaping our nations.
Seychelles and Mauritius share a common history of colonialism and the unfortunate tragedy of hereditary slavery.
