Mauritius is making progress in its efforts to commercialise ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) with the selection of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines’ study on water intake pipes.

This study, commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, evaluates the feasibility of OTEC in Mauritius and identifies suitable sites for OTEC facilities.

The project also includes the analysis of conditions for installing water intake pipes. OTEC technology uses the temperature difference in ocean water to generate electricity, providing stable power output.

Mauritius, with its ideal location and renewable energy targets, is an excellent candidate for OTEC implementation. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines plans to accelerate OTEC commercialisation in Japan and overseas by leveraging its expertise and supply chain network.
