Chaos at Mauritius Airport: Angry Passengers Contained by Police

Published

on

The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is currently experiencing a cascade effect of anger. Passengers are frustrated and venting their frustrations after a series of flight cancellations, which have resulted in rescheduling that does not meet their expectations.

The situation was already chaotic due to limited supply from Air Mauritius, the national carrier, with two large aircraft grounded for days just last week.

The intensification of the situation was exacerbated by cyclone Belal, which was reported to the authorities beforehand.

On Wednesday, the check-in terminal was crowded with frustrated passengers venting their frustration after a series of flight cancellations. In a video that was shared by l’Express newspaper, Police officers were seen trying their best to contain this angry crowd.

Since the reopening of the airport, Air Mauritius said it has been working tirelessly to catch up on cancelled and rescheduled flights, operating multiple flights with large aircraft and ATR 72 planes.

Solutions were being developed last night to reduce the number of waiting passengers, and two additional flights were expected to be operated to Reunion Island.
