Mauritius ranks 2nd in ICT development in Africa

A report by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has revealed that Mauritius ranks second in Africa for information and communication technology (ICT) development, with a score of 81.7.

The top spot in Africa goes to Morocco, with a score of 85.1. Following closely behind, the Seychelles scores 80.9, South Africa scores 80.5, and Libya scores 79.4. 

The report also highlights the significant progress in ICT development throughout Africa.

Of the 45 countries surveyed, 20 scored above 50.

Algeria comes in at sixth place with a score of 77.8, while Egypt follows closely with 75.8.

Tunisia and Botswana share ninth place, both with 74 points. Gabon completes the African top 10 with a score of 72.9. 

Titled “Measuring digital development: The ICT Development Index 2023,” the report evaluates ICT progress in 169 countries and territories worldwide based on 10 key indicators.

These indicators include the percentage of internet users, mobile broadband penetration, mobile broadband internet traffic, mobile data prices, voice services, and mobile phone ownership. 

On a global scale, the United Arab Emirates takes the lead with a perfect score of 100, followed by the United States (99.1), Qatar (98.7), Kuwait (98.2), and Denmark (96.9).
