Postal service hindered by acute shortage of staff

Mauritius Post is encountering a serious staff shortage that is causing long queues at post offices and delays in mail delivery.

The Union of Post Office Workers has deplored over 70 vacant positions for Postal Officers that affect 110 post offices throughout the country.

Mauritius Post has promised recruitment campaigns but has failed to follow through.

The lack of staff is causing employees to work overtime and on Sundays while their leave requests go unapproved.

Additionally, several administrative staff members were transferred to post offices, potentially compromising crucial admin services.

Finally, an important postal sorting center opening in March 2024 means that Mauritius Post will require additional staff which, without a recruitment campaign, will lead to transfers.
