Chinese Ambassador Optimistic About Future, Pushes Free Trade Agreement
Zhu Liying, the Chinese ambassador to Mauritius, has expressed optimism for future cooperation between the two countries, particularly highlighting the significance of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between China and Mauritius.
The volume of trade between the two countries has been increasing steadily, reaching $914 million in 2021 and $1.8 billion in 2022.
Zhu Liying also pointed out the remarkable success of special sugars and Mauritian rums in the Chinese market.
He expressed confidence in the potential for ambitious collaborative projects in high-tech, finance, medicine, and the pharmaceutical industry, emphasising the advantageous position of Mauritius as a hub between China and Africa.
Zhu Liying discussed China’s commitment to sustainable development and its global initiatives, including the Belt and Road Initiative.
He highlighted China’s commitment to global security and its cooperation with Mauritius in various sectors such as professional training, ICT, and finance.
