MITD: Controversial Pre-selection Exercise for Director Position

The pre-selection process for the director position at the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) is causing controversy.

The Federation of Civil Service and Other Unions (FCSOU) is currently conducting pre-selections for the appointment of a new MITD director.

Dr Vinesh Sewsurn, president of FCSOU, denounced the arbitrary nature of this pre-selection exercise, as qualified candidates were not selected for interviews.

He cited the example of Hemant Madhow, who possessed all the necessary qualifications for pre-selection.

He suspects that Madhow was excluded from the event precisely because he held the position of president of the MITD employees’ union, thus explaining why he was not interviewed.

Dr Sewsurn asserted that this practice violates Article 11 of the Equal Opportunity Act and has urged the Ministry of Labour to intervene and set the record straight.
