Food Poisoning: 101 Cases Recorded in One Year

The Annual Performance Report of the Public Health and Food Safety Inspectorate Unit (PHFS) for the fiscal year 2022-23 reveals that 101 cases of food poisoning were recorded, prompting investigations.

Among the 61,357 premises inspected, there were 2,583 health notifications and 3,133 nuisance notices.

Convictions by district courts for 27 offences related to environmental sanitation resulted in fines totalling Rs 53,200.

Additionally, the PHFS inspected 21,618 food establishments, issuing 3,243 improvement notices, identifying 549 violations, and bringing 461 cases to district court.
