In an interview with Le Mauricien, Greg Lowden, the CEO of HSBC Mauritius, has reassured that the bank has no intention of leaving Mauritius.

He stated that the sale of HSBC’s Retail and Business Banking to Absa Mauritius does not signify a departure from the country, but rather a shift towards becoming a fully international bank.

Lowden emphasized that HSBC will continue to support clients in areas where they can add value, particularly in serving local businesses with international needs.

He also mentioned the bank’s focus on sustainable finance and its plans to assist Mauritian operators in financing sustainable energy projects.

Lowden highlighted that despite the divestment of its retail operations, HSBC remains committed to Mauritius and its international presence.
