Political observer Jocelyn Chan Low has called for a rebranding of political parties in Mauritius, citing a loss of trust in traditional parties by 60% of the electorate.

He attributes this decline to issues such as poor governance, unfulfilled promises, and questionable alliances.

Chan Low believes the recent Privy Council ruling on Suren Dayal’s electoral petition won’t significantly impact this demographic.

He insisted the need for actions beyond legal considerations to uphold democratic values and calls for an expedited electoral dispute resolution process.

Additionally, he advocates for parties to reinvent themselves and stresses the importance of credibility.

Yvan Martial, another political observer, notes that the Prime Minister holds the key to constitutional and electoral system changes.

He called for unity and collaboration in Parliament. Martial said he considers resorting to the Privy Council as unpatriotic and called for a more efficient resolution of electoral petitions, proposing a six-month timeline.
