Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth announced a substantial investment of $180 million for the construction of a new landing strip in Rodrigues during the island’s 21st Anniversary of autonomy celebration.

He highlighted the increased budget allocation for Rodrigues, growing from Rs 2.7 billion in 2015-2016 to Rs 5.2 billion in 2023–2024, resulting in improved infrastructure and services.

The Prime Minister emphasized water supply as a priority, with a proposed investment of one billion rupees through the M.I.C.

He reaffirmed his commitment to Rodrigues’ development, including the construction project, funded by an approximately eight billion rupees loan from the World Bank, along with a grant of about Rs 720 million from the European Union.

Air Mauritius plans to introduce a new ATR 72-600 by late November to enhance connectivity between Mauritius and Rodrigues.

Additionally, efforts are underway to acquire a second boat for travel between the two islands.
