Former Minister, Prem Koonjoo Dies

Former Mauritian Minister of Fisheries, Prem Koonjoo, has passed away at 79.
He had been hospitalized since Sunday. Koonjoo, who retired from active politics in 2019, cited his age as the reason.
He had a notable career in education and held various high-level political positions, including Minister of Civil Service and Minister of Commerce. Koonjoo returned to Parliament in 2014, representing Vieux Grand Port and Rose Belle.
He played a crucial role in oceanic economy, marine resources, fisheries, navigation, and remote islands from 2014 to 2019.
He is the father of current Minister Kalpana Koonjoo Shah.
