Return of Chagos Islands to Mauritian Ownership - Boris Johnson: 'It's a Done Deal

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has stated that the UK is poised to transfer ownership of the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius. In an opinion article for the Daily Mail, Johnson described this move as a “done deal” and criticized it as a “completely senseless” decision.

He emphasized the strategic importance of the archipelago, which includes Diego Garcia, home to a significant US military base. Johnson also highlighted Mauritius’ growing alliance with China.

Negotiations between Mauritius and the UK are ongoing, with terms of operation for the military base being a key issue. Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth has reassured both British and American governments of the base’s importance during recent discussions.
