Belgian airline Air Belgium has made the decision to discontinue its passenger flights to South Africa and Mauritius, effective October 3, 2023.

This move comes as the airline grapples with financial challenges and seeks to reshape its operational strategy.

Flights scheduled before October 3, 2023, will operate as planned, providing reassurance for passengers with existing tickets. Return flights before this date will be accommodated by Air Belgium, whether directly or through other carriers.

Post-October 3 flights that have been paid for will be cancelled and refunded. The airline will now focus exclusively on cargo transport and ACMI charter services for other airlines, aiming for future growth.

Umarfarooq Omarjee, Executive Director of Omarjee Aviation and Air Belgium’s representative in Mauritius, expressed disappointment over the situation, highlighting substantial investments made to expand services.

They had targeted a 75% occupancy rate by December.
