Mauritius Grapples with Triple Epidemic, 17 new Covid patients in one week

Mauritius is currently facing a triple epidemic involving Covid-19, seasonal flu, and the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
Dr. Soobaraj Sok Appadu, Director of the New ENT Hospital, has credited the country’s high Covid-19 vaccination rate for maintaining a relatively stable situation compared to some other nations experiencing spikes in cases due to new Omicron sub-variants.
Despite the emergence of more contagious strains of seasonal flu, Mauritius nevertheless remains in a “safety zone” thanks to widespread vaccination efforts.
Currently, the country has reported 17 positive Covid-19 cases within a week, a low figure attributed to both PCR and rapid antigen testing.
Dr. Sok Appadu has emphasised the similarity in symptoms between Covid-19 and seasonal flu, urging vigilance among the public.
Additionally, three Covid-19 positive patients have been hospitalised at the New ENT Hospital.
