Mauritius Aims for Big Partnerships with Pakistan
The High Commissioner of Mauritius in Pakistan, Rashidally Soobadar, spoke at an event celebrating Mauritius’s Independence Day and highlighted the nation’s impressive economic progress indicators.
Soobadar emphasized the importance of the knowledge economy in driving this progress and noted that economic and diplomatic ties between Mauritius and Pakistan are strengthening.
Soobadar stated that Pakistan is providing educational opportunities, including scholarships, to Mauritian students.
He described Mauritius as a welfare state with a focus on public health, education, and housing.
The ambassador emphasized the significance of investing in education, stating that by prioritizing human capital, Mauritius has achieved a stable position in global economic rankings.
Soobadar disclosed that Mauritius allocates around 6% of its GDP to the education sector. The country ranks 23rd out of 190 nations for ‘ease of doing business’ and 56th for security and peace.
He highlighted Mauritius’s history of 56 years of independence and peace, with the government providing support for 95% of citizens to own their homes.
During the event, Mushahid Hussain Sayed commented on Mauritius’s journey of progress and development, recognizing the nation’s significance in the African region.
Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), also emphasized the growth of economic and trade ties between Pakistan and Mauritius.
Overall, the event showcased Mauritius’s achievements and the strengthening relationship between Mauritius and Pakistan in various spheres, including education, economic development, and diplomatic cooperation.
