Port-Louis Urban Revamp: Rs 3 Billion Terminal Plans Under Review by UNESCO

Efforts are underway to expedite the extension of the Metro Express to Immigration Square and the renovation of Port-Louis’ central market, with both projects recently gaining UNESCO’s approval.

The Rs 90 million renovation of the central market’s butcher and fishmonger sections is set to begin around January 2024, following a tendering process.

The historic market’s architectural elements will be preserved, and it will feature upgraded ventilation and refrigeration systems. Additionally, UNESCO has requested revisions to the plans for the Rs 3 billion Immigration Square Urban Terminal project in Port-Louis.
