Cost of Living: Inflation Rate Estimated at 9.6% in August

The average inflation rate for the 12 months ending in August of this year is estimated at 9.6%, as reported by the Central Statistics Office, which released the cost of living index for the month of August. The inflation rate recorded for the same period last year was 8.8%.

Meanwhile, headline inflation is estimated at 5.9%, the same as the figure recorded in July. Last year, during the same period, it was estimated at 11.5%.

In August, the cost of living index saw an increase of +0.4 points from July to August. The price index rose from 131.3 in July to 131.7 last month, primarily due to a 0.1-point increase in culinary herbs, vegetables, and other food products, as well as a 0.1-point increase in hotel establishment services.

However, other goods and services experienced a 0.2-point increase.
