Mauritian authorities are said to be closely investigating a bank account held in Dubai by Danesh Ellayah, a close associate of former Mauritius Telecom CEO Sherry Singh.

According to Defi Media, the inquiry stems from significant transactions totalling over Rs 2 billion allegedly made through this account, involving payments from Mauritius Telecom to companies like Mobimea Ltd, Anglomobility, and DNS Consult Ltd.

The probe, led by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the police, is focused on potential fund distribution across several accounts in Dubai.

The investigation has been facilitated through a recent Memorandum of Understanding with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Ellayah’s alleged involvement in strategic decisions, contract awards, and program implementation is also being examined. He allegedly played a role in the Showmax program, where Anglomobility supplied “intelligent boxes” to replace older configurations. Concerns have emerged about the reliability of these boxes.

Anglomobility’s participation in deploying Safe City cameras also attracted scrutiny. MT purchased equipment for approximately Rs532 million, and suspicions exist regarding pricing practices and equipment quality.

Furthermore, allegations of pressure on MT’s finance department to facilitate payments to Anglomobility, and potential employee involvement in fund disbursements, are being investigated.
