The ‘highly decomposed body’ of a 66 year-old Mauritian tourist was found near an underpass in New Delhi’s Geeta Colony area, India media have reported on Saturday.

According to New Delhi Police, a Mauritius passport, a flight ticket and other documents of the woman identified as Bhagwat lutchmee, a Mauritius national born in 1956, were recovered from the spot.

“The police teams are scanning CCTV cameras in the area to ascertain the crime sequence,” a senior police official, DCP Shahdara, Rohit Meena, was cited as telling the Times of India, adding that investigation into the case is ongoing.

Lutchmee reportedly travelled to India on February 6 on a tourist visa for a Reiki ( a healing technique) and has been reported missing since 23 February. The Mauritius embassy reportedly filed a missing complaint on 28 February.

The tourist was found in evening of Friday 17 March after a passerby informed police, they said. The body seemed to be two to three days old. It has been preserved in a hospital.

The gruesome discovery comes days after a chopped body of a woman was found in drain in sector eight of Noida on Thursday. Police said that prima facie the body parts appear to be nearly five days old.
