Three Mauritian activists file 'precautionary measure' over fears of being 'framed'

Three political/social activists, Ivann Bibi, Percy Yip Tong and Alain Malherbes, have separately filed a “precautionary measure” against Police’s Special Striking Team (SST).

They said the move was triggered by the arrest of Bruneau Laurette after the alleged discovery of over 40kgs of hashish in the latter car.

Speaking to reporters, Ivann Bibi said his name appears in an alleged “Hit List” of the SST that has been circulating on social networks since August.

“Of the ten names on the list, three people have already been arrested. According to reliable sources, my  arrest by the Striking Team is apparently imminent,” he claimed.

“I am making this statement as a precaution against imminent arrest for crimes I did not commit but for which I could be framed.”

Malherbes and Yip Tong – who, together with Bibi, are known to hold anti-government statements – have reportedly expressed similar concerns.
