Grand Baie: Partial road closures and detours for next four months

Those living up north will need to be patient: A busy route into and out of Grand Baie is to undergo four months of partial road closures as excavation works start in connection with the Grand Baie Sewerage Project 1B.

The project entails 92 km of sewer and 6km of water pipe replacement, connecting 4,500 houses.

The works are being undertaken along the Old Mill Road from 20 June 2022 to 20 October 2022.

According the traffic diversion scheme, the Old Mill Road will be partially closed from the traffic lights near the entrance of Domaine Les Alizees up to Old Mill Villas.

Traffic will be allowed on the Old Mill Road from Old Mill Villas up to its junction with the coastal road. Local access to residents and commercial units along the Old Mill Road would nevertheless be give access.

Traffic heading towards Cap Malheureux/Pereybere from Grand Baie will be diverted along the Mont Choisy-Cap Malheureux Coastal Road (B13).

Traffic coming from Cap Malheureux/Pereybere heading towards Grand Baie will be diverted along the Mont Choisy-Cap Malheureux Coastal Road (B13) and the Vingt Pieds Road (B45);

Furthermore, the bus route number 83 (Grand Baie – St Antoine) will be diverted at the work zone location on the Old Mill Road.

Two turning bays would be provided before the signalized junction at Domaine Les Alizees on the Vingt Pieds Road near Oasis 1 villas on the Old Mill Road to allow passengers to board buses near the work zone locations.

Motorists have been strongly advised to “exercise caution” when approaching the works area and to drive within the prevailing speed limit.
