Ex-Police Chief to be quizzed over torture videos
Former Commissioner of Police, Khemraj Seervansingh, will reportedly be quizzed soon as part of the investigation to shed light on a USB key passed on to his office in 2021, containing footage and images of torture perpetrated by officers of the CID of Terre-Rouge .
The investigation is conducted by the Central CID and a panel of senior officers from the Police Headquarters.
According to media reports, the then Police Commissioner Servansing had requested a team from the CCID to carry out this investigation. The findings were reportedly forwarded to the ex-CP but no action was allegedly taken. Surprisingly, media reported, a senior officer, who was in charge of this investigation at the time, was transferred to another police unit.
Police Press Officer Inspector Shiva Coothen, who reportedly had a copy of the pen drive, has also come under fire for inaction.
So far, over 50 people have reportedly come forward to denounce police brutality and torture since the videos went viral last week.
