Mauritian man arrested in Italy after attempted kidnapping

A 39-year-old Mauritian man has been arrested and charged after the attempted kidnapping in Rome, Italy.

The man, who has not been named publicly, faces charges of attempted kidnapping, robbery and acting in a manner injurious to a 49-year-old man, according to Italian media.

The Italian media earlier said it was looking for the man in connection with the brazen attempted kidnapping Thursday night.

The Mauritian, accompanied by a 35-year-old Italian woman allegedly threatened the 49-year-old man with a knife at the doorstep of his apartment in the Centocelle district in Rome.

The man was wounded with the knife during the attack.

While he was keeping a watch on the victim at home, his female accomplice went out shopping with the newly stolen credit card.

But the victim apparently managed to call the police – they came promptly and arrested the Mauritian. They later tracked down the woman in a luxury store.
