Thousands take to the streets in Mauritius to protest against price hikes
Hundreds of vehicles, motorbikes and several thousands of people participated in the rally led by the Association of Consumers of Mauritius (ACIM), in the streets of Port-Louis on Saturday.
The motorcade, to protest against the recent prices hikes, toured the capital city under heavy police presence.
The event received the symbolic support of traditional political parties Labour, MMM, PMSD.
Significant participation came from extra parliamentary parties Bruneau Laurette and Linion Pep Morisien, Patrick Belcourt and members of “En avant Moris” movement, activists Ivan Bibi and Percy Yip Tong, as well as the Reform Party.
ACIM has denounced the Government’s monetary policies and “exaggerated taxes and levies.”
