WHO representatives leaves Mauritius

The Representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Mauritius, Dr Laurent Musango, has paid a farewell call to Government officials, after six years in Mauritius.

He expressed satisfaction that Mauritius complied with recommendations of the WHO during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Musango’s mandate in Mauritius has often been marred by numerous ups and downs. At the beginning of the pandemic, he came under fire for being too embroiled in local politics.

Last week, WHO’s COVID-19 figures came to contradict those of the Mauritian Government – the WHO claimed there were roughly 10 times more COVID-19 cases in Mauritius than what were being said.

Dr Musango leaves Mauritius on Wednesday for his new posting in Madagascar.
