Municipal elections postponed for another year

The President of the Republic, Pradeep Roopun, on the advice of Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, has signed the decree to postpone the municipal elections until June 14, 2023.

The official reason of the move is the “prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine restrictions”.

This is the second time the elections are being postponed.

Opposition parties have condemned the move, calling it illegal and a ‘rape of democracy”.
