Public warned about fake Rs2,000 notes in circulation

The Bank of Mauritius has warned that counterfeit Rs 2,000 notes are currently in circulation.

A representative of the BoM filed a police complaint about the counterfeit notes this week.

A BoM spokesperson said all old Rs2,000 notes must be exchanged and that they cannot be used for purchases or other transactions.

Paper notes were demonetised in 2019, following which notes in polymer were introduced.
