Mauritian Gamers Aim PUBG Mobile Championship

Mauritian esports teams have received an exclusive invitation to register for the prestigious PUBG Mobile National Championship MEA Wildcard 2024 tournament.

This championship, a pinnacle event in the esports realm, is now open to Mauritian squads, marking a significant milestone for the local gaming community.

PUBG Mobile, one of the most beloved titles in the Mauritian esports scene, takes center stage in this highly anticipated competition.

Organizers of the tournament, spanning various countries worldwide, have officially announced the staging of the PUBG Mobile National Championship MEA Wildcard 2024, extending a warm welcome to Mauritian teams.

With an astounding prize pool of $15,000 (approximately Rs 690,000), the stakes have never been higher, promising fierce competition among participants.

Additionally, in an exciting twist, victorious teams in this prestigious event may earn the opportunity to qualify for the coveted PMSL Qualifier Fall season, opening doors to international acclaim.

According to eSports Faction, the liaison overseeing Mauritian participants and organizers, between 30 to 40 local teams are expected to participate in this tournament. Registrations concluded on Friday, March 22, 2024.

The tournament is set to kick off on Sunday, March 24, with the Open Qualifiers running until Friday, March 29.

The top-performing teams will advance to the group stages scheduled from Friday, April 5, to Monday, April 8, 2024.

Finally, the remaining teams will battle it out in the grand finale slated for Friday, April 12, through Sunday, April 14, 2024.

Anticipation is mounting as the competition promises to deliver intense clashes among contenders.

Understanding the tournament progression exclusively organized by Tencent, the developer of PUBG Mobile, in collaboration with Krafton, the developer of PUBG, is crucial.

The pathway to participation involves a rigorous process often referred to as the ‘grind.’

Teams begin by registering via the PUBG Mobile application or online through the PUBG Mobile Crew Challenge (PMCC) in the African region.

Upon qualifying among the top 100 teams in the region, a team secures its position, advancing to the PUBG Mobile Club Open (PMCO).

Jahanzeb Rabbani, also known as Mega, a prominent Mauritian esports commentator, elaborates, “During the PMCO, teams engage in a series of competitions, initially with 256 teams in the group stage, with only 16 ultimately qualifying for the finals.”

The PMCO comprises multiple seasons, including Spring and Fall, where the top three teams from each season secure direct berths to the semifinals of the PUBG Mobile National Championship MEA Wildcard (PMNC). Thirty-two teams from each region participate.

The PMNC MEA Wildcard commences with a substantial number of teams, following a different format.

Thirty-two teams from each region, Africa and the Middle East, qualify for the group stage, totaling 64 teams.

The top seven teams from each region join the already qualified semifinalists. The top five African teams from this competition qualify for the PUBG Mobile Super League (PMSL), formerly known as the PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL).

The final stages of this competition chain lead to the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) and the PUBG Mobile World Cup (PMWC), bringing together qualifiers from other regions worldwide.

Reflecting on past achievements, only one Mauritian team, Zero Tolerance Skills, managed to reach the PMPL Africa stage in 2022 and 2023, acquired by the association MAU eSports at the end of 2022.

“Since then, unfortunately, no Mauritian team has succeeded in reaching this stage, but I know many have resumed the grind,” affirms Jahanzeb Rabbani.
