Former parliamentarian, Eric Guimbeau, was involved in a serious road accident at Union Ducray on Sunday afternoon, March 3rd, and sadly did not survive his injuries.

The former MP for constituency no 17 (Curepipe/Midlands) passed away on the night of Tuesday, March 5th at the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle.

According to police sources, Eric Guimbeau was riding his Harley Davidson with a group of friends when he was found lying on the road by his companions. The exact circumstances of his fall are still unknown at this time.

Aged 63, Eric Guimbeau first entered parliament in 2000 during the victory of the MSM-MMM alliance, as a member of the MMM. He later left the party to join the PMSD, led by Maurice Allet.

Eric Guimbeau was re-elected to parliament in 2005. Four years later, he resigned from the PMSD to establish his own party, the Mauritian Social Democratic Movement (MMSD).

In the 2010 elections, he formed an alliance with the MMM and the National Union of Ashock Jugnauth, and was elected for the third time for constituency no 17. However, he was defeated in the same constituency in 2014 during the victory of the Lepep alliance.

Eric Guimbeau also served as the CEO of the St-Aubin group, which includes three estates: the Aubineaux estate, the Bois Chéri estate, and the Saint-Aubin estate, all part of the Tea Route from Curepipe to Souillac.
