Economic Boost: 1,350 New SMEs Registered, Creating 2,160 Jobs
Economic Boost: 1,350 New SMEs Registered, Creating 2,160 Jobs

From January to November, 1,350 new SMEs registered in Mauritius, creating 2,160 jobs.

These businesses are categorised into sectors and districts on an online directory, which currently includes data on 8,634 SMEs.

896 applications for assistance programs were received, representing a combined turnover of Rs 2.2 billion and 3,500 jobs.

One program helps place graduates in SMEs, with the government providing a stipend.

Training sessions have been conducted to support SMEs in various industries, and trade fairs have been organised to showcase their products and services.

The Ministry of SMEs has engaged a consultant to strengthen the leather industry, and initiatives are underway to support shrimp farming and potato processing.

The SME Masterplan is being updated to address current challenges, including the impact of the pandemic and geopolitical tensions.
