A major oil and metals trading company, accused of corruption in Angola, is seeking to establish a presence in Mauritius.

The company, whose name has not been disclosed by Defi Media, is said to be facing multiple allegations, including bribery charges, and has apparently been indicted by the Swiss Attorney General for corruption of public officials in Angola.

It has reportedly admitted to making payments into a Geneva bank account and cash payments to an Angolan government official.

The company is also said to be under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice for irregular payments in Brazil.

The allegations are the latest in a series of actions targeting corruption in the commodities trading sector, and this is the most serious case to date involving one of the world’s largest oil and metals traders.

According to Defi Media, as of now, the company has only applied to operate in Mauritius and is awaiting a permit pending an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
