Onion Supply Under Scrutiny as India Imposes Export Ban

Concerns have been raised over potential onion shortages in the wake of India’s ban on onion exportation.

However, the Agricultural Marketing Board (AMB) in Mauritius assures that the country’s stock of onions remains stable and there will be no scarcity in the coming weeks, particularly during the holiday season.

According to statistics from Statistics Mauritius, the AMB imported 5,264 tonnes of Indian onions in 2022, with imports from January to September reaching 9,884 tonnes.

The AMB has already called for tenders from various countries to ensure a continued onion supply in the country.
