SIM Card Re-Registration: Labour MP Files Motion of Disallowance

Labour MP Shakeel Mohamed has filed a Motion of Disallowance in Parliament to challenge the SIM card re-registration exercise.

He argues that certain clauses in the ICTA Regulations violate the Supreme Court’s judgment on the Biometric ID Card.

Mohamed is awaiting a response from Speaker Sooroojdev Phokeer on his request for debates.

He believes the exercise lacks justification and does not address the issue of unregistered phones.

Concerns regarding data protection and access to confidential information have also been raised.

Linion Moris members are contesting the exercise in the Supreme Court, citing constitutional issues.
