Heavy Rain Warning Issued for Mauritius - Public Urged to Take Precautions

The Meteorological Department of Mauritius has issued a heavy rain warning bulletin at 1030 hours on Saturday, December 2, 2023, which will remain valid until Sunday morning, December 3, 2023.

Currently, the local weather is being influenced by active clouds associated with a low-pressure system approaching from the West.

As a result, rainfall is expected throughout the entire island, with showers ranging from moderate to locally heavy at times.

Thunderstorms are also forecasted to develop this afternoon, persisting into the night.

Given these conditions, a heavy rain warning has been put in place for Mauritius, urging the public to take necessary precautions.

The following advisory has been issued to ensure the safety of the public:

1. People are advised to seek shelter in safe areas and avoid open spaces, hiking activities, and venturing out to sea during thunderstorms.

2. It is crucial to stay away from areas prone to water accumulation, including river banks and other watercourses that may flood. Additionally, certain mountain slopes known for landslide occurrences should be avoided.

3. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution on the road due to reduced visibility caused by heavy rains and fog patches.
