Catholic Church’s request for Judicial Review granted by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has granted the Catholic Church’s request for a Judicial Review in the case against the Independent Broadcasting Authority and the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation regarding the censorship of Cardinal Maurice Piat’s Christmas message in December 2021.
The court believes that there is evidence suggesting that the IBA improperly replaced the “complaints committee” and sought the MBC’s opinion before making a decision.
The Diocese of Port-Louis, represented by its lawyers, challenged the censorship and requested a reconsideration, which was initially denied by the IBA.
However, the court has now granted permission for the Judicial Review, as the Diocese has presented sufficient evidence to support their case.
